- Nintendo Hard: Schism was still intended as a balance mod, and it shows:
- Monsters are more aggressive than before, and even have different tricks than in standard Brutal Doom.
- There are five difficulties, but only two don't have Fast Monsters and/or Respawning Monsters on by default.
- Every so often, boss monsters such as the Spider Mastermind and Cyberdemon have a chance to be replaced with a unique variant, also replacing certain monsters with theme-fitting variants that are often more difficult to manage.
