* FanPreferredCouple: Koga X Yuna is very popular in the fandom due to how much time they spend together and due to the fans' desire to include a romantic relationship in the franchise for the first time. During the Sanctuary Arc, fans became happy with the focus on Yuna who was often worried about Koga's mental state. This was even better when Yuna stops Koga from his own darkness by awakening her Seventh Sense.

** However, in both Shaina and June's cases, they chose to love the men who had seen their faces (Pegasus Seiya and Andromeda Shun, respectively), even knowing their love would go [[AllLoveIsUnrequited unrequited]], so actually they were in compliance with the mask law (a female Saint whose face has been seen by a man must choose between killing him or loving him). Also, while June is not seen again after Shun's battle with Spika and Leda in the original series, Shaina does keep wearing her mask even after Seiya had seen her face (and even in this series as well!), so she still complies with the mask law. While Yuna chooses not to wear her mask because of "freedom" (her own desire of not being bound by the mask law).

* WhatAnIdiot: [[spoiler: Souma. Or at least his decision to go after Sonia alone with no leads on her location at all. When it would be easier for him to stick with the group and wait for her to attempt to capture Aria again or appear at another Cosmo Core which she wants to protect.]]
** [[spoiler:The whole group deserves mention here. Sure, let them split up the party, leaving only two Bronze Saints to protect the girl they're supposed to be escorting, while the whole army of Mars is tracking them down to take her back. [[WhatCouldPossiblyGoWrong What could possibly go wrong]]? [[IdiotBall One episode later, they lose her]].]]

* CommonCrossover: With the ''Anime/PrettyCure'' franchise, in particular ''Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure'' (in which its first character designer previously took part) and ''Anime/SmilePrettyCure'' (which was the one airing when it premiered), to the point of spawning a few relatively obscure {{crossover ship}}s.

* AbortedArc: Season 1 set up a number of plot threads, many of which either ended with no substantial payoff or were straight up unresolved, such as [[spoiler:the deaths of Aria and Sonia, Tokisada's supposed connection to Haruto's predecessor Wolf Yoshitomi and Koga being Abzu's vessel]].
** Many of the new concepts introduced in the first season to "freshen up" the Saint Seiya formula, such as clothstones and strategic battles based on representing elements were tossed out fairly early even before the season ended.

* AssPull: [[spoiler: Paradox having a sister wasn't really hinted at at all in the first season, and actually runs somewhat counter to the back-story they gave her. Depending how charitable you're feeling, this is either her being an UnreliableNarrator or the new writers inserting something they just came up with. Fans of the original series are likely to be more forgiving, though, knowing the "Gemini = Twins" thing.]]

* PanderingToTheBase: The redesigns from season 2 and return of all the classic heroes seem to aim at this.

* FoeYay: A small but increasing amount between Souma and Sonia, [[spoiler:especially after he sees how she ''really'' killed his father]]. Paradox initially shows a high amount of interest in Ryuho, seeing him as a substitute for her previous romantic obsession, [[spoiler:his now married father Shiryu,]], although this is dropped following her return in season 2.
** From season 2 we have Pallas' obsession with Koga.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: They could have shown Aria developing into a successor for Saori, paralelling Koga's development as Seiya's successor. Instead, [[spoiler:she gets StuffedIntoTheFridge halfway through the first season.]]

** In the Brazilian dub, Ryuhou's first spoken line, said to Kouga as he's about to leave Palaestra, is translated as "It's too soon [for you] to leave." With [[AuthorExistenceFailure his local voice actor's sudden death at the age of 27]], this line has become all the more eerie and even a little prophetic.
