YMMV / Ronin (1998)

  • Ass Pull: While most of the movie is expertly written, the part where Sam and Vincent have no leads and come to the conclusion that Gregor is working with the Russians because they see a person with a similarly-sized case for ice skates and there are Russians in town for the ice skating event smacks strongly of Contrived Coincidence. Especially considering that it's implied that Gregor did make the case, as it's still wet from the same spray paint used to cover the windows at their base. Also, why would the fact that there is a publicized Russian ice-skater going to be having a performance in town automatically translate into "Gregor must be working with Russians and those Russians are undoubtedly tied to that ice skater"? That's like passing a billboard for an upcoming Bon Jovi concert and coming to the conclusion that the CIA did it and are members of his band.
  • Signature Scene: The daytime car chase through Paris; a common contender for the greatest car chase ever put on film.
