YMMV / Rim of the World

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The movie never clarifies why aliens wanted the planet; Are they mindless monsters eager to find a new world to destroy or did they attack the earth to protect their own from extinction? On one hand the aliens try to kill any human they find but on the other the main alien only starts stalking the kids after they kill his "pet", showing that the aliens do care about their kind.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Gabriel is the most remembered character in the movie because of this. He is played by the handsome Italian actor Alessio Scalzotto, wearing tight clothing and his beauty is never tarnished. Just look at some photos to know why several fans fell in likes him.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Gabriel is a character that even detractors tend to like because he is considered the only character who is not a walking stereotype.note  He is a genuine Nice Guy who was wrongfully thrown into juvie but is a brave kid who has a Big Brother Instinct towards Alex and repeatedly calls out Dariush for his jerkass behavior. He was interesting enough that some wanted him to be the main character.
  • Epileptic Trees: Since the Face Full of Alien Wing-Wong scene is never properly explained except when Played for Laughs, the alien putting a tracker in Dariush is a very logical theory that would explain how the alien was able to track the gang 70 miles across LA.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Despite getting ripped to shreds by critics and audiences, it was the most watched streaming movie in the UK.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: That Dariush at one point in the movie tells Gabriel "I'm not trying to get DiCaprio'd up in here!", would cause some involuntary laughter once several viewers compared Alessio Scalzotto (who plays Gabriel) with the real Leonardo DiCaprio as a teenager.
  • Squick: It's gross enough that Alex and Zhen Zhen have to hide inside a latrine, but what's really sickening is when a drunken Conrad urinates on them before being graphically murdered.
  • Uncertain Audience: One point of contention among certain critics of the movie is that the uneven tone makes it a bit vague as to who this was actually meant for; it has a childish premise of four kids having to save the planet from aliens that would appeal to younger audiences, but there are also several sex jokes and nostalgic 80s references that would appeal more to teen or adult viewers.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Don't be fooled by the childish synopsis, the movie contains several off-color jokes that range from hilarious to disgusting and several adults are murdered on screen in brutal ways.
