  • Tear Jerker: At the end of Issue #1, Mordecai and Rigby discover that their children don't recognize them as their parents and instead think Alberich is their father. If that didn't hurt enough, Issue #2 starts with a flashback of Mordecai and Rigby maturing into responsible adults, marrying their significant others, and having their first children. Both vow to their first kids that "I'll never let anything happen to you." Looks like they broke that promise.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Some criticism is that despite the title, the story doesn't really follow the duo in their older ages, which only happens at the start and end of the story, and kinda negates the point of the title since most wanted to see how they would fare now that they were wiser.
    • Likewise, many thought that the Fey invasion plot could've started earlier in the story and ran through into the final issue. This comes from the sense that it just got brushed aside too fast, and the belief that it would've been a nice curtain call for all the main characters to help with the final plan, similar to what happened in the show's finale. Plus, seeing how all these character would've looked like even further into the future.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Fans of CJ were disappointed she only got a quick mention and were hoping for some closure to her and Mordecai's storyline, as well as seeing what she would look like older.
    • Margret likewise felt squandered to some. She just pops in, helps the duo for a bit, creates tension between Mordecai and Stef since she'd also been de-aged (though from a different event) and just leaves as quickly as she came in. No resolution on her de-aging plot either.
    • Stef and Eileen don't get involved into the plot until the fifth issue and even then they don't really do much. Especially true for the former, as we don't get a good grasp on her character nor her relationship with Mordecai. Likewise the duo's kids and what they're like.
