• Strangled by the Red String: While Sam and Goldie's wedding at the end of Regarding the Trees makes sense given how their relationship's been built up over the past few books, Angel and Angelo's — after an entire book of doing nothing but feuding with each other — doesn't. The author seemed to realize this, at least; in the next book, it's shown that their marriage is off to a seriously rocky start.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Close to the climax of Trees, both Angel and Angelo's family recipes get stolen, resulting in the town feud heating up further. Given how he's done little connected to the plot so far at this point, it would have been an interesting twist if it had turned out Justin Case had stolen the recipes in a misguided attempt to end the town feud since it was messing with his "emergency phone tree" plans. Instead, we learn that Angel and Angelo themselves were the culprits in a throwaway line, and Justin remains irrelevant to the plot outside of his Butt-Monkey status.
