• Broken Base: Whether the idea had any real potential or if the whole thing is terrible. Those who think the idea had potential sometimes compare the two pilots and discuss which one was the better of the two.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Out of all the actors, most seem to agree that Hinton Battle and Jane Leeves did a pretty good job as the Cat and Holly. Danny John-Jules even said that he was surprised to hear that Battle was cast at first, before realising that it made sense considering his own career in theatre.
• Fan Nickname: The second pilot is often called "White Dwarf" due to it lacking actors of colour.
• Questionable Casting:
  • Everyone agrees that Craig Bierko was miscast as Lister, and is often used as proof that Americans don't understand the show or the characters. No one really says that he didn't put any effort into the role, but even Bierko has admitted he wasn't right for the part and that the studio wanted a more traditional action hero lead.
  • Terry Farrell's version of the Cat isn't exactly popular due to changing the character into a more violent cat lady who is clearly set up to be Lister's love interest, not to mention that many like Craig Charles noticed that this meant the whole cast was now white.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Jane Leeves plays Holly here, several years before she became famous as Daphne Crane in Frasier
  • Terry Farrell played the Cat in the second American pilot some time before she became known for playing Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
