YMMV / Punisher: The Platoon

Go To

  • Genius Bonus: Plenty of these given a piece of historical fiction:
    • The Green Berets fresh off Lang Vei and pissed off at the Marines were part of a real incident where the loyal indigenous soldiers and their families weren't allowed into the Marine camp for food and shelter because the paranoid Marine commander feared North Vietnamese infiltrators were among them.
    • Ly's traumatic backstory begins with her seeing American troops coming down to her home in the Song Ve Valley. There was only one American unit that operated in the Song Ve Valley, and committed war crimes almost daily. Them taking an hour to massacre Ly's family is sadly true to their real life selves.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Green Beret sergeant who nearly picks a fight with the platoon out of anger over how the Marine Corps forced his unit to abandon the indigenous civilians he protected makes his one scene quite memorable, especially since Truth in Television.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Despite the title of the miniseries, hardly any of the platoon members get names, focus, or plot relevance outside of the core seven. Plenty of fans would have liked loads of characters to show up under Frank's command. This is especially disappointing for the unseen man with the interesting nickname "Eyeball" and Ortega (who is only onscreen briefly but handles himself impressively during a firefight).
