YMMV / Princeless – Raven: The Pirate Princess

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Aside from her initial attack on Raven when they reunite, Ximena is quick to forgive Raven for her role in her kidnapping and her father's execution. She was even upset about the fact that Raven's brothers usurped her claim to her family's fleet. She instead places all the blame on Raven's father and agrees to help her get back her birthright if he's brought to justice.
  • Anvilicious:
    • Like the main comic, almost all the antagonists are chauvinistic men who are incredibly hostile and/or pathetically foppish with little depth or characterization outside of those traits.
    • The speech Katie gave when the ship was attacked by Dana/Melancholy Johnny, especially the final line:
Katie: We are women! WE ARE MIGHTY! NOW MAKE THEM SORRY THEY EVER THOUGHT THEY COULD STOP US!
  • Pandering to the Base. The heavier focus on homosexuality in the cast than the main comic. Jeremy Whitley noticed that Princeless had a sizable LGBTQ fan base, but he didn't want to make Adrienne openly gay since he felt Adrienne was still working out her sexuality. He was also worried about making it seem that Adrienne was a rebellious princess only because she didn't want be with a man. On the other hand, he considered Raven and her crew to be perfect candidates to be used to tell LGBTQ stories with.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: When Crow and Magpie are introduced, they're just one note, misogynistic pirate leaders who's no different than all the other foes Raven and her crew fight. Likewise, after Raven defeated and captured Magpie, she had no major interaction with him before having him imprisoned to await trial. She didn't talk him about his betrayal or even try to interrogate him about Crow or their father.
