• Complete Monster: Maurice is Phillip's abrasive, sadistic uncle who hides an even darker side beneath the bullying exterior. A vicious pedophile who wears a mask and assaults children around the city, Maurice raped Phillip himself for years after taking custody of him. Kidnapping another child in the present and keeping him locked in a chest, Maurice plans to rape the boy and Phillip one last time before framing Phillip for his crimes and moving on to terrorize other cities.
• Nightmare Fuel: The entire movie basically counts.
  • The titular puppet. It's a creepy human head with wide, empty eyes and spider-like body with long, spindly legs.
  • It's never revealed what happened at Phillip's last performance to cause him to return home — only that it was a disaster and it's implied that Possum was involved.
  • The fact that despite Phillip's repeated attempts to get rid of Possum, it always reappears. Even after Phillip leaves it in the woods, throws it off a bridge, breaking it and throwing it off a dock and even setting it fire, it just keeps coming back.
  • The reveal that Maurice physically and sexually abused Phillip as a child and is the one responsible for not only Michael's disappearance, but the assault of children in the past.
