- Seasonal Rot: This episode begins the Black and White series' third and final year note , and as divisive as the whole series is, even fans of it feel that it went downhill here.
- Unintentionally Sympathetic: Due to their haughty, condescending attitudes and scathing rebuke of Ash and Iris' Pokémon for being "unattractive", the Flower Garden Troupe are the antagonists of the episodes who we're meant to enjoy seeing receive their comeuppance. But given that Iris goes about this by humiliating them at their own school and they express very pitiful, hurt and angered reactions over said humiliation, many viewers could be left feeling that this Kick the Dog crossed a line into just fighting meanness with more meanness. At most, only Moira deserved any of it since she's the one who actually did the insulting, whereas Mona and Cher were guilty only of being her Girl Posse.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Iris is understandably livid at Moira, Mona, and Cher for how they belittled her and insulted her Pokémon, but she takes her desire for payback against the three girls to the extreme of not only falsifying her identity to be let into their performing school where she could humiliate them on their own turf without letting them in on to what for she even wants to challenge and defeat them, but even forcing a reluctant and uncomfortable Ash and Cilan to cross-dress and play along with her charade with her, all while acting every bit as insufferably smug and disdainful as her opponents and ultimately learning nothing from the entire ordeal, which really undermines the inclination to root for her in this episode.
