- Awesome Art: Even critics of the series admit that the art of the phantoms is its saving grace.
- Cliché Storm: The series really doesn't offer that much new as far as supernatural shonen go, with many elements directly paralleling other supernatural Shonen Jump manga like Hell Teacher Nube, Shaman King, and Muhyo and Roji.
- Fandom Rivalry: With Me & Roboco since most fans of Phantom Seer often blame Roboco for the cancellation of the series.
- So Okay, It's Average: The overall consensus on the series is that while it does have Awesome Art, the story and characters are nothing to write home about. It doesn't help that it came at a time where Jump readers were experiencing "Japanese Mythology fatigue", being overshadowed by huge successes like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen (and even more confidential hits from sister magazines like Kemono Jihen in SQ and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku in Plus) and arriving at the tail end of a handful of unsuccessful and short-lived series about youkai and exorcism being canceled one after the other the previous years (in fact, by coincidence, the previous manga about an exorcist fighting youkai, Bone Collection, was Cut Short the same month this series started).
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Iori comes out as this and is usually cited as one of the main problem of the manga. Despite the author trying to portray him as a Jerk with a Heart of Gold with a Dark and Troubled Past, his selfishness, laziness, and reluctant attitude just seem whiny for most readers especially for how overpowered he appears anytime he has to fight, many comparing him unfavorably to his incarnation in the original 2018 one-shot pilot.
