The film:
- Audience-Alienating Premise: It's a western starring Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. But it's also a musical in which they share a bride! No wonder Homer and Bart were shocked when they watched a parodic version of it.
- Awesome Music: "They Call The Wind Maria", performed by Harve Presnell.
- Crosses the Line Twice: Ben and the other prospectors plowing through the grave they'd just dug up to bury Pardner's brother when they discover gold there? Morbid. The men launching the body up into the air before they all pile into the hole? Hilarious.Ben: (after finishing a nice eulogy) Pull 'im up!
- He Really Can Sing: While there are fans who have doubts, a great many others were surprised at how naturally Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood could sing. After all, in Marvin's case, "Wanderin' Star", wasn't a hit song for no reason.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The song "I Talk to the Trees" became funnier when Clint Eastwood gave a rather strange rambling speech towards an empty (wooden) chair representing President Barack Obama at the 2012 Republican National Convention.
- Memetic Mutation: Not really related to the film, but the parody version from The Simpsons episode "All Singing, All Dancing" is definitely one.
- One-Scene Wonder: Harve Presnell, whose only major contribution to the movie is to perform an absolutely stunning rendition of "They Call the Wind Maria."
- Parody Displacement: People who have only seen the The Simpsons episode "All Singing, All Dancing" may have no idea that it was ever a real movie.
- Questionable Casting: Okay, the cast would've been okay if it was just a Western, but it was a musical!
- Strawman Has a Point: In the movie, given how the Parson with his hellfire-and-brimstone preaching and forewarnings of doom seems to be in large part an object of ridicule and the town literally getting swallowed up by the earth is comically ironic, the town's demise is in large part an unintended consequence of its own vices and the negligence that results. Bonus points for those passionate about animal rights, for the fact that the trigger is a rampaging bull escaping from being forced to fight a bear.
