• Base-Breaking Character: Aoi isn't universally hated, but she does have some vocal detractors, especially when shipping is involved. This can be attributed to the fact that she simply has not received enough focus and development for someone who is supposed to be the main heroine, thus not giving readers a reason to root for her. Despite that, she does have an honest and straightforward attitude that people do like, and many of her detractors were even proud of her when she swallowed her feelings to let Keitarou confess to Botan.
• Fan-Preferred Couple: It's a little telling when fans (some seriously and some half-jokingly) state that Miyama is second-best girl for Keitarou over Aoi, despite not having any other competition outside of the other two.
• One True Pairing: Keitarou/Botan's popularity as a pairing vastly exceeds that of Keitarou/Aoi, in large part due to the level of focus and development Botan receives in comparison to Aoi and the better rapport people believe Botan has with him. And they get their wish in the penultimate chapter; Aoi lies and swallows her feelings so Keitarou can finally tell Botan how much he loves her, and they kiss to boot.
