- Harsher in Hindsight: Hazel is very excited to take her first airplane ride from Vermont to New York. Carole Lombard would, of course, perish in a plane crash just a few years later.
- Retroactive Recognition: Margaret Hamilton and Hattie McDaniel have small roles in this film.
- Unintentional Period Piece: The main storyline dates the film to the time of the Radium Girls scandal. When the film was adapted for Broadway as Hazel Flagg in 1953, it retained the 1930s setting, even moving it a bit backwards to 1933. In the Living It Up remake, the source of the radiation exposure is changed to an atomic test site, playing on an issue as topical in the '50s as the Radium Girls were in the '30s.
