YMMV / Noah's Island

Go To

  • Tear Jerker:
    • Rocco losing his mate Hetti in the shipwreck. The entirety of his character arc through the series consist of him struggling to overcome his survivor's guilt and move on.
    • "Woomera Runs Away" features the extended scenes of Woomera trying to save some sick dolphins that keep beaching themselves. Hearing her despairing pleas for the pod to swim out to sea again as she works into the night can be heart-wrenching, and it gets even worse when, despite her efforts, the dolphins die anyway. Anyone who's failed to save a sick animal can sympathize with her easily.
      • This is shortly followed by the revelation of Woomera's Dark and Troubled Past - she used to care for members of her kangaroo herd that were shot by humans, and left Australia after some of them didn't make it. It's heart wrenching to think that, in her mind, she's remembering all those kangaroos she failed to save as she weeps over the beached dolphins. And when Salomi sadly informs her that she can't save everybody, she snaps "You think I don't know that?!" with all the pain of somebody who's already experienced such a loss and desperately doesn't want to experience it again.
      • In fact, Woomera's failure hurts her so badly she becomes disillusioned with Noah's Island and the philosophy behind it, and seriously considers leaving the island so she doesn't have to live through that again.
    • Noah's Heroic BSoD in "The Skating Rhinoceros", where his eagerness to reach Diamantina leads him to sail the island straight into a storm around Cape Horn. This results in the Fire Bowl being extinguished, leaving the island at the mercy of the ocean currents, and Mammothsbody becoming gravely injured. The rest of the animals turn against Noah for his recklessness, and Noah, ashamed of his actions and what they have led to, abandons his post as captain and spends most of the episode stricken with guilt.
      • Salomi, upon seeing the injured and dying Mammothsbody, finally comes to regret how badly she treated him and wishes that she'd agreed to marry him all those thousands of years ago. It's shocking to watch the normally stern mammoth finally break down and Rocco struggle to comfort her.
