  • Anvilicious: The Green Aesop of this film is very unsubtle.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The book and the film's premise is a pure, distilled example: a virus has not only destroyed much of the world's food supply but has also killed hundreds of millions of people both from starvation and the increasingly desperate attempts to contain the plague. As a result, social order is breaking down, with food riots regularly breaking out and bands of marauders roaming the countryside. And did we mention the rape scene? Well, we just did.
  • Tear Jerker: Basically the entirety of both mediums. The scenes involving pollution are enough to shed a few tears from a few environmentalists and Roger Whittaker’s theme is so wrist-slitting, it makes you wish that you never wanted to hear that song at all.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: This is such a bleak, depressing and disturbing flick that some viewers might find it difficult to sit through.
