YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S7 E16 "Campfire Tales"

• Adaptation Displacement: Since the vast majority of the fandom keeps up with the episodes but only a smaller portion reads the comics habitually (and an even smaller portion of that group does so with comics beyond the main IDW line), the portrayal of the legendary ponies in this episode definitely overshadowed their comic appearances — in fact, not all fans knew they technically debuted in a comic series at all.
• Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Scootaloo actually scared of everything, or is she just acting scared so Rainbow will comfort her?
• Ass Pull: Rockhoof just magically (and randomly) becoming bigger and stronger while digging the trench to redirect the lava flow. It has virtually no explanation and just comes from out of nowhere.
• Epileptic Trees:
  • Due to a similarity in looks, some personality quirks, and name, some have started to theorize Flash Magnus is a potential ancestor of Flash Sentry, or at least is his namesake.
  • With one of the dragons looking like a younger Torch, there is already speculation that the other dragon was Ember's mother.
  • Theories have also started saying the heroes of the legends are also the possible ancestors of the pony that told them, though Rarity/Mistmane and Rainbow Dash/Flash Magnus have more traction than Applejack/Rockhoof.
• Hilarious in Hindsight
  • Fly-ders don't live in hives or hunger for ocular jelly do they?
  • A subset of the fandom has a slight fascination for ponies with eggplants. Scootaloo has Rainbow Dash actively avoid eggplants because her book said they're poisonous when eaten raw.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Some see post-Heel–Face Turn Sable Spirit as this. Sure, she vows to become The Good King to honor Mistmane's Cast from Lifespan sacrifice... but it hurts that almost her entire screentime is spent during her God Save Us from the Queen! phase against her innocent citizens, which turns out to be petty Revenge by Proxy over losing her beauty/youth (due to her own actions instead of anypony else's, on top of it). Because of this, some have cried Esoteric Happy Ending over Sable seeming like (to them) a Karma Houdini at Mistmane's expense.
