* IdiotPlot: Midway through the episode, everyone has arrived at a win-win conclusion. The Flim Flam brothers' business is successful, Granny Smith feels better than she has in years, and Applejack -- without compromising her personal beliefs ''too'' severely -- has conceded that that's enough for her. How do we round out the half hour? Simple... by having everyone chuck caution to the wind and go too far.
** The Flim Flam Brothers should remember that apple juice is a profitable product in Ponyville without fabricating health benefits.
** The civilians of Ponyville should remember that the Flim Flams either weren't the best sports or made bad cider ([[AlternateCharacterInterpretation depending on what you believe]]).

** Telling everyone that the Element of Honesty endorses your product and forcing her to keep lying about it after you've told her the truth? Check. Egging Granny Smith on by saying she could have totally made that jump even though you ''know'' she couldn't have and that Applejack was freaking out over it? Check. Instead of "admitting" that even your super-special tonic has its limits and saying that ponies shouldn't try doing anything really extreme since, although it might alienate ''some'' customers, it ''would'' stop anypony else from trying anything ridiculous and figuring out that your tonic can't do everything you say it can, you continue to lie? Check. Also, who keeps using the same shill in the same town? ''Anyone'' could've spotted that.
** Film and Flam confess to Applejack that their tonic is a fake. Instead of telling the truth to Granny Smith, Applejack reluctantly just goes with it when they say she's never felt younger and knows that Applejack doesn't want to take her grandmother's happiness away. She only sees how bad of an idea it is when she [[OhCrap stops Granny Smith from doing a dangerous high-diving platform]].

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot:
** Some fans were disappointed that Flim and Flam are again obvious villains, rather than showing up after reforming themselves, and Applejack not knowing whether to believe them. Others have argued that avoiding a reformation plot helps keep the show from falling into a potential new status quo of "all returning villains must be reformed," especially if said villains are more low-key.
** Some fans were upset that this ended up being Applejack's key episode because it comes across as being thrown in at the last second after the writers realized they hadn't given it to her yet and also means that you're not allowed to [[FanonDiscontinuity forget that this episode exists]].

* MagnificentBastard: The Flim Flam brothers. While recognizing that Applejack wasn't going to believe their lies and getting her to go along with them by appealing to her desire to make her family happy instead ''was'' pretty smart (and they do it while making some tonic ''right in front of her''), stretching their luck by insisting that she flat-out endorses the product and claiming that the tonic could do things that are flat-out impossible instead of just things that are only unlikely/maybe possible with enough confidence [[FromACertainPointOfView (truth-stretching)]] wasn't.

* AccidentalInnuendo: An expression like "a pony of a different color" seems out of place in a world with [[AmazingTechnicolorWildlife ponies of all different colors]], especially one in which no prejudice has been shown to any particular coat or mane color. [[FanficFuel Perhaps its origins]] are in a much earlier time when [[FantasticRacism such prejudices]] were common?
