• Faux Symbolism: After unleashing the power of the Elements on Nightmare Moon, you can clearly see Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Applejack all posing in a Crucified Hero Shot while Rarity and Fluttershy look as though they are praying.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Near the climax, when Nightmare Moon breaks the orbs representing the Elements of Harmony, Twilight tells her that she'll need more than that to destroy the Elements. As of the premiere of the final season, they're now destroyed for good.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: If you take "One Small Thing" as Pinkie's anthem in the 2017 movie, it calls back perfectly to her role in here. She simply laughs at the monsters Nightmare Moon has conjured up. But in doing so, she convinces the others that there's nothing to be afraid of - allowing them to continue their journey, and freeing Princess Luna from her corruption. One small thing can be the biggest thing of all.
• It Was His Sled: Nightmare Moon is Princess Luna and she redeems herself at the end.
• Memetic Mutation: The sea serpent's hilariously campy pronunciation of "moo-STACH." Some bronies will only refer to a mustache as such.
• Narm Charm: Fluttershy calling a manticore a "poor little baby". Yes, it may seem a little funny, but it still sounds sweet. Plus, it sets up Fluttershy's position as the Element of Kindness rather well.
• One-Scene Wonder
  • Princess Luna has barely a minute of screen time, two lines of dialogue, and isn't mentioned for the rest of Season 1. She became an extremely popular character in fanworks, even before she reappeared with more screentime in later seasons.
  • The sea serpent, nicknamed Steven Magnet by fans. In exactly one scene and steals the show with his absolutely flaming personality and hilarious voice, not to mention is still a pretty nice guy.
