YMMV / My Country: The New Age

Go To

  • Award Snub: Despite being widely considered to be one of the best South Korean period dramas of 2019 (and possibly one of the best South Korean series of 2019 of any genre), neither the series nor any of the actors were nominated for a single award.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ahn Nae-sang (Nam Jeon, Bang-won's enemy) previously played Bang-won in the 2015 series More Than a Maid.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Oh so much between Hwi and Seon-ho. Exchanging Longing Looks, tending each other's wounds, sleeping side-by-side... And then of course there's "Your sword still feels affectionate."
    • There's also some (mostly one-sided) Ho Yay between Bang-won and Hwi. When Bang-won says "Our emotions can't be controlled" and asks Hui-jae "Has [Hwi] ever been mine?" it sounds exactly like he's angsting over unrequited love.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Seon-ho veers back and forth between being an Anti-Hero and a Villain Protagonist, but even at his most villainous he's still a woobie. Awful father? Check. Hated for being illegitimate? Check. Becomes estranged from his only friend? Check.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: "Seonhwi" for Seon-ho/Hwi and "Seonrok" for Seon-ho/Seong-rok.
