- Accidental Aesop: Getting good with just about any musical instrument takes a lot of training, and that in turn requires even greater dedication and motivation.
- Awesome Music: Skullflower's cover of "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath during the end credits takes an already Epic Riff and adds cello in place of the bass and vocals for a fresh sound that is metal beyond reproach.
- Critical Dissonance: Reviews were mixed-to-average for the film, with criticism targeting the awkward plot and uneven performances. However, audiences were much more forgiving, especially amongst metal fans, who actually enjoyed the in-depth look at metal culture with good tunes to go with it.
- Diagnosed by the Audience: Emily has severe outbursts of anger, coupled with bouts of depression, all managed by "happy pills" that she occasionally neglects to take.
- Heartwarming Moments: Kevin and Emily's relationship and the support he provides to her when she starts to self-loath her mental state. While it checks just about all the boxes for cliches, it's the actors performance that elevates it to being genuine and sweet.
