YMMV / Melanie's Marvelous Measles

Go To

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: This book is infamous for being pro-measles and anti-vaccine propaganda. The title's similarity to another book whose author became a pro-vaccine activist after their daughter died of measles in 1962, doesn't help either.
  • Fridge Horror: If Melanie's doctor thinks an active kid with painless lesions is the worst case of measles he's seen in years, could that mean he's actually a fraud?
  • Informed Wrongness: Just because Jared was wrong about all unvaccinated people dying, doesn't mean that vaccines are useless.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Although not being vaccinated doesn't necessarily kill you, being vaccinated helps save lives, so Jared had a point about vaccinations.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Tina's mother is supposed to be the voice of reason because she's the Ms. Exposition. However, she's often hated by readers because she claims measles is harmless and even deliberately sets her daughter up on a playdate with a measles-ridden girl in hopes she'll catch it.
