  • First Installment Wins: Virtually no one will argue against From Beyond being their best album.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Despite their influence, their reputation, while to a less extreme extent than some other examples, is fairly stained by Kam Lee's confrontational personality and arrogance throughout the years. He's become infamous for numerous antics including consistently making enemies and burning bridges with former bandmates over fairly trivial disagreements, feigning ignorance when dealing with fans and colleagues who call him out, behaving in a needlessly abrasive and vulgar manner during interviews (mostly early in his career), and constantly pulling the race card to avoid full accountability for his behavior. Most notably, he made a hamfisted attempt to distance himself from Promise by vehemently insisting for decades that he didn't sing on the record, even though the vocals on the album clearly sounded like his and the liner notes credited him, only very recently admitting he was on it, which made him look incredibly egotistical and unable to accept that he had made a blunder, and when half of the band abruptly quit in 2020 (who claimed they were warned about him before joining and named him the sole aggressor of the conflict), he immaturely mocked news outlets who reported on the situation for giving him "free publicity" and refused to give his side of the story. While the band remains a respected figure in U.S. death metal and Kam is still well-regarded as a musician, the allegations and controversies surrounding him have gradually become synonymous with their name far more so than anything else.
