  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Pretty much any busty female side character in the anime (like Chichi, the Landlady/Okami, Toyo, Oiso, etc.) has their own strong following in the fanbase.
  • Fan Nickname: Fans often refer to the landlady of the inn from episode 2/chapter 7 as "Okami", to the point that some even believe that to be her real name, despite the fact that it's the literal Japanese word for landlady.
  • Les Yay: The relationship between Chifusa and Kaede quickly shifts from master and retainer, to a Pseudo-Romantic Friendship. The people who meet them typically assume that they're lesbians, but it's never actually confirmed. Yet, two of the OVA specials show that Kaede has brought Chifusa to orgasm more than once while attending her.
  • Older Than They Think: The show's obvious moral is based off historical conceits from many cultures where physical attributes (such as dainty feet or plumpness) were seen as attractive and the worth of a woman was based around them, often for fallacious reasons that, much like the show premise, resulted in warped societal standards of attractiveness.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Kagefusa, who was a fun, violent, sex-crazed woman, becomes a nun in the later chapters, completely changing what fans liked about her. Like Kaede, she also never gets her boobs back.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The manga eventually ignores the fun fanservice of the initial chapters for a more serious drama, which alienated most of its original fans.
  • The Woobie: Kaede mainly serves as comic relief, though several episodes poignantly remind the viewer that she's actually a tragic figure. She's often mocked and derided for her flat-chest, despite formerly having larger breasts than Chifusa's. But since Kaede chose to defect from the Manyuu Clan in order to remain with Chifusa, the Clan Elders cut her breasts as punishment, then cast her out as a traitor. From then on, Kaede spends the entirety of the series being treated as a pariah by their society. Few, other than Chifusa, take pity on her.
