YMMV / Man with a Movie Camera

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The movie has received numerous awesome soundtracks over the years, with the 2003 Cinematic Orchestra version being widely hailed as the best.
  • Once Original, Now Common: While the movie is still very enjoyable today, it can be hard to understand just how revolutionary it was in terms of how documentaries were made, from showing the everyday life of ordinary people, its usage of juxtaposition, and the way action shots are filmed.
  • Values Resonance:
    • Women get just as, if not more screen time as men, and they are shown doing "masculine" activities (such as working, playing sports and shooting) in a decidedly positive light. It helps the film's editor was a woman.
    • A smaller example, but this was one of the first ever pieces of media to depict Nazis in a bad light. This was 4 years before they took over Germany, and a full 10 years before they were unanimously acknowledged as villains.
