- The Scrappy: By virtue of the comic not being very well-received, Marius and Tessa have this reputation among some in the fandom. Marius in particular is regarded as bland and uninteresting.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Magekiller #1-5 has well-written dialogue, good art and features a number of fun cameos of characters from Dragon Age: Inquisition. That said, many Dragon Age fans felt the series was disappointing, as the later issues are set in rehashed locations and deal with threats players have already faced. Tessa and Marius undergo minimal Character Development, and it's never made clear what sets a "magekiller" apart from an extremely skilled swordsman.
