- Hilarious in Hindsight: A Science Fantasy story with a shoehorned time travel scene in which the protagonist and his love interest are left floating out in the middle of nowhere with no conceivable hope of rescue, only to be saved by an Ass Pull spaceship coming out of thin air before moving on with the plot? It seems Final Fantasy VIII's hijinks were Older Than They Think.
- Narm Charm: The OVA, in all of its late-eighties, tentacled raunchiness. It helps that its monster design is often seen as one of its most reedemable aspects, or at least would have been with a bit more animation budget.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Several reviews have noted that the series (at least the OVA) has actually enough good ideas to be an excellent High Fantasy anime, only to waste them with a rather boring execution.Bennett the Sage: In any case, the opening scene of Madara makes a thousand promises of awesome. We have a swordsman making an epic escape on a harpy while dodging floating eyeballs, we got demon shinobi being sliced and diced by another swordsman... It looks like this anime is going to kick 12 kinds of ass. And it doesn't.
