- Once Original, Now Common: Ariel's homosexuality, which was Played for Drama and with a sympathetic character was quite a shock for Chilean audiences back when the series originally came out. Nowadays audiences would probably find it quite tame (given the character itself is Manly Gay and we never see him with a couple) in comparison to how gay characters are handled now, but in the time the series came out the overall idea of having a sympathetic gay character that wasn't Played for Laughs was quite a novelty.
