YMMV / M2

YMMV tropes for M2's works as a whole (as well as works that don't have their own pages yet):

  • Broken Base:
    • Fans of the M2 ShotTriggers line are divided on whether the Toaplan Arcade Garage releases are good for the shmup community due to helping preserve some of the most iconic shmups of the late 80s and early 90s, or problematic because of Toaplan games being considered outdated and unfairly difficult (especially amongst younger shmups fans, who may be more used to CAVE and Touhou Project games) and it stops M2 from producing high-qualilty ports of other developers' games for what is likely the next 5-10 years.
    • With only five stages and 15-20 minutes per run each, are the Konami ReBirth games too short? Or are they good enough that the short length isn't a detriment?
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The ReBirth games get a fair bit of criticism for each being only 5 stages and about 15-20 minutes long, which is seen as short even by the standards of the series each game is part of.
  • Polished Port: M2 is practically the collective poster child for this trope. Many of their ports, especially the SEGA AGES and M2 ShotTriggers lines not only being highly faithful to the source material but also adding quality-of-life touches like the much-vaunted M2 Gadgets that display real-time data that would otherwise not be shown to the player, and some of these games pack fantastic arrange soundtracks.
  • Underused Game Mechanic: In the M2STG releases (other than Aleste Collection), many of the gadgets are only available in horizontal screen orientation, such as the ones for score breakdown in ESP Ra.De. Psi, the Chip Radar and end-of-stage bonus in Ketsui Deathtiny, and Enemy Alert in Kyuukyoku Tiger Heli; i.e. they are not available in vertical orientation.
