YMMV / Lupin III: Goodbye Partner

Go To

  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: multiple levels of this, owing to the fact that the film lasts for about an hour and a half.
    • The idea of Jigen betraying Lupin, even though it was done under duress, seems to have been rushed a bit too much. The first implicit tip-off the audience gets that something is wrong is that very little attention is given to Jigen's activities prior to him shooting Lupin in the chest. For that matter, it is almost ridiculous that Jigen has to be given the gun that would be used to kill Lupin. A Sig-Sauer P229 loaded with government-exclusive ammunition should not be in the hands of a private citizen.
    • Alisa's importance to Jigen is only discovered when he sees her as a dead ringer for her mother. This whole hostage situation could have been made more clear with Jigen receiving a blackmail message from Fujiko.
    • The development of Emilka and the quantum computer that serves as her host seems not to have been explored very well. Just who was Dr. Abelson, and why is he dead? For that matter, after Emilka left the computer and became a person, what did she do before watching Alisa at the piano competition?
    • Roy Forest himself: his motives are clear enough, but why would he need to frame Zenigata to get Lupin to steal the Time Crystal?
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Attacking the quantum computer and the Time Crystal with Zantetsuken might have saved Lupin and his friends some trouble after taking its controls away from Roy. Then the sequence involving the failing American military strikes would not be required.
