• Harsher in Hindsight: Eliza's entire chapter is drowning in this, given it's inevitable she and Hardestadt lose each other. The chapter title is even called "Never to Be."
• Heartwarming Moments: In general, Hardestadt's unfailing commitment to all of his great loves. Even long after their deaths, Hardestadt remembers, treasures, and has never stopped loving any of them. Ceoladh in particular affirms her love for Stadt even in her last moments of life, as "boundless and eternal" as the ocean itself.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Ceoladh's entire story with Hardestadt, taking major cues from the original story of The Little Mermaid, and her eventual death. It's the longest of the segments in the story, and easily the most profound and gut-wrenching.
  • Eliza's section is this on a more understated level; the segment itself is adorable, but the Foregone Conclusion ensures Eliza and Hardestadt will never stay together. Fittingly enough, the chapter's name is "Never to Be."
