YMMV / Love, Death & Robots: "The Dump"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Ugly Dave is not a The Hero defending his land from evil big business looking to take away his land. He's a madman feeding people to a monster that may one day turn on him without a moments notice.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Dave could be argued to cross this when he feeds the inspector to Otto. His death is not a pleasant or quick one.
  • Strawman Has a Point: The story tries to frame the inspector as an Asshole Victim who had it coming for wanting to evict Ugly Dave. In actuality, he was trying to shut down a dump that was a nuisance for the neighbors at best, and a health hazard at worst. And that's without taking into account the cannibal monster. In the end, he was eaten for doing his job.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: The inspector is supposed to come across as obnoxious and demeaning to Ugly Dave. But even ignoring the horror that is Otto, Dave's dump is a health code nightmare and deserves to be shut down. Especially if there's going to be people living nearby. The inspector is completely justified in his actions and even more so when Dave feeds him to an abomination living in the junkyard.
    • A line of dialog mentioning new development hints at eminent domain abuse, but still doesn't really call for being fed to a monster.
