YMMV / Lost in Camelot

Go To

  • Audience Awareness Advantage: While nobody in Camelot has realised it yet, the reader can be certain from the beginning that it was Merlin's future self who sent Bo into the past based on the description and his obvious power, even if his motives are only determined second-hand once Kilgharrah explains what likely took place.
  • Funny Moments: Basically any moment where Uther expresses his belief that Arthur is having sex with Merlin or Gwaine;
    • Morgana is initially shocked at the idea that Uther seriously believes that Arthur likes men.
    • Morgana takes advantage of an opportunity to tease Arthur about this idea directly, noting that this ensures Uther won't suspect Merlin's relationship with her and Bo as Arthur was always "terrible at sharing".
    • When Arthur observes that he would have better taste in men if he was that way inclined, Merlin observes that Arthur's "too high-maintenance" for him and Morgana coldly asks if Arthur's questioning her taste.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The true horror of the sleeping curse is made clear, as Morgana finds herself alone as everyone around her falls into a sleep she can't wake them from, with no way of knowing how far this particular curse has spread and therefore no way of knowing if she can ride elsewhere for help, and also concerned about what will happen to her absent loved ones. This is likely even worse than in canon, as this time around Morgana has enough training in her magic that she at least tries to find some way to dispel the sickness herself, but the nature of the curse prevents her from channelling her magic to do anything about it.
  • One True Threesome: Bo/Merlin/Morgana, as specified by the author from the beginning of the story; Bo/Merlin begins as a purely sexual relationship in Chapter 10, develops to an emotional bond in Chapter 19, and expands to include Morgana in chapter 29/30 (Bo suggests such a relationship to Morgana in 29 and then presents it to Merlin in 30). Despite a few 'teething troubles' in the early days due to Morgana's uncertainty about her own feelings for another woman, by Chapter 35 the thought of nearly losing Bo pushes Morgana to accept that she loves her, with the triad sharing a kiss under the moonlight. By Chapter 41, Morgana affirms to Bo that the succubus is the only woman she will ever love, and Bo makes it clear throughout that Merlin and Morgana are equally important to her even if she was involved with Merlin first. When Bo is near death due to a curse, Merlin and Morgana are still comfortable being together without Bo, but each are aware of the sense that they don't fit together as perfectly as they do when Bo is with them. Once the curse is broken, the trio soon return to their usual dynamic as they make new lives for themselves in the fae kingdom, each of them finding ways to support the other two as Bo and Morgana learn about the secrets of their parents in the territory of the Blood King.
  • Squick: Witnessing the true form of the troll was disturbing enough, but when Kenzi starts wondering out loud if Uther's actually having sex with the troll (and also questioning if it's a male or female troll), Arthur goes so far as to throw up at the mental image.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Morgana's breakdown at the start of Chapter 29, when she learns that the man she loves (Merlin) is in love with the woman she at least considers a good friend (Bo), trapping Morgana in a cycle of depression as she starts worrying that she will lose both of them in favour of Bo and Merlin spending time with each other.
    • The reactions of Bo's loved ones when they learn that Bo taking the sleeping curse from Morgana into herself saved Camelot but at the cost that it will kill Bo in a matter of days. Morgana rejects Morgause as her sister and then spends the next few days barely even able to eat as she grieves at Bo's bedside, Kenzi can't bring herself to visit Bo because she doesn't want to lash out at Morgana for something she knows the other woman never intended to happen, and Merlin is only able to do his best to offer Morgana comfort even as both of them feel Bo's absence (and none of that is helped by Uther basically wanting Morgana to get over a "youthful infatuation" and prepare for an arranged marriage to a man she doesn't love).
    • Lost Kingdom features Morgana shaken when one of the fae guards bluntly forces her to acknowledge that, regardless of how much Bo loves her and Merlin, as far as Morgana knows they are only human, and will "inevitably" age and die while Bo remains as she is for the rest of their lives. Not only does Morgana feel suddenly overwhelmed by the idea that she and Merlin cannot hope to have any impact on fae society given the relative brevity of their lives compared to Bo's, but she is also shaken at the thought of the Bo of some distant future dismissing her and Merlin from her memory when Morgana is already sure that she and Merlin will love Bo for the rest of their lives.
