The Film

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: It's a romantic comedy with an Opposites Attract angle, which is normal, but the catalyst of the story... is two kind, lovely young people married with a baby die horribly from an accident and their grief-stricken best friends have to raise their infant daughter. It's very hard to concentrate on the laughs and sweeter moments with such a heavily gloomy and sad premise.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The movie is largely forgotten for this reason—it's extremely by the numbers in the humor and romantic elements. The very sad plot-triggering deaths don't help matters, either. It was also during the time when it was the beginning of the end of all big budget rom-coms. People became sick of the formulaic manner in which they're all written and the genre became relegated to straight to TV/DVD or streaming channel movies.
