YMMV / Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero

• Awesome Moments: Anytime Max snaps out of his funk and shows off his old skills as a Hero are always a treat. With the best example being his actions to get to The Gamma Republic on nothing but a bike and the ensuing battle with Fred and Leo.
• Best Known for the Fanservice: Zenia and Maou's human disguise have very attractive designs that are some of the first things to come up in discourse about the series.
• Heartwarming Moments: Despite the depressingly comedic situation of Max's post-war life, his relationship with Maou manages to be genuinely happy and wholesome, with Maou revering him for not just his strength but his goodhearted qualities and doing his best to raise his spirits and provide him with a happier life, while Max grows cheerier and increasingly appreciative of having Maou in his life, even if he's unwilling to admit how much he enjoys it.
• Just Here for Godzilla: Many a viewer was initially lured in by Zenia, the bottom-heavy demon secretary in a leotard, believing the show to be more of an ecchi comedy. But much of those same viewers later reported being pleasantly surprised by the humor and story once they were already locked in.
• Tearjerker: Max's living situation at the beginning of the series is genuinely upsetting. He lives alone in a cramped, filthy apartment, surrounded by old food, garbage bags and sex toys, with his holy sword Blazebringer just another forgotten trinket in the pile. Maou is shocked into silence when he first sees him and takes a while to process that the person he's seeing is the same hero who kicked his butt 10 years prior.
• Viewer Gender Confusion: While the story does still use masculine pronouns for him, Maou's Sleep-Mode Size form is so androgynously child-like that many who see the show from out-of-context clips, and even those watching/reading the story, often get confused into thinking he's been reincarnated as a young girl, not helped by both the outfit Zenia gave him to wear being designed for young girls and his human transformation being very blatantly female, but there are many times in the manga that make it clear his normal form is still just as male as his extremely manly past life.
