• Designated Hero: The detectives. Their entire basis for getting involved has nothing to do with any actual crime being committed but rather the fact that it offends their own personal sensibilities. As a result, they attempt to deny and sabotage Janey at every chance they get despite her being a legally adult woman.
• Strawman Has a Point: The attorney representing Janey at her competency trial give Stabler an epic ass ripping regarding his wife's attempt to divorce him, his Knight Templar style of parenting, and how all this leads to questionable objectivity on his part regarding Janey. The thing is, Stabler's Cowboy Cop tendencies have not given him a spotless record regarding impartiality.
