YMMV / Law & Order: Special Victims Unit S6 E1 "Birthright"

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: in this episode Benson sympathizes with a woman who kidnaps a small child because she thinks being genetically related to that child makes her the only legitimate parent and entitles her to override the child's interests (and those of the child's legal parents). 13 years later Benson's own child, Noah, is kidnapped by a woman (Sheila) who thinks that her genetic connection to the child makes her the only legitimate parent for that child, and that Benson's lack of genetic connection to Noah means she's not a real parent.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Michele Osborne. Sure, what her doctor did to her was wrong, but her behavior throughout most of the episode alienates any possibility she had to being sympathetic. She acts very cold when discussing being reunited with her daughter and seems to view her as a trophy rather than a child she loves. Plus, there's the fact that she's either unaware that taking Patty from the only family she's ever known will destroy her or she just doesn't give a damn. Luckily, in the end, she decides to let Patty stay with them.
