** Fans of someone playable only through the Character Switch ability (e.g., Doctors #1-12, a Ghostbuster who didn't get top billing in his or her respective movie) would probably feel disappointed if they can't find a physical minifigure of that character, or if completing a franchise's team seems either more costly or less convenient than if Lego sold more Fun or Team Packs for the franchise in question.[[note]]For instance, if you want Newt Scamander and Jacob Kowalski to visit worlds outside of the ''Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'' story together, you'd need to either buy two ''Fantastic Beasts'' Story Packs, or buy one pack, then order an extra Newt Toy Tag.[[/note]]

* GameBreaker: The drop-in-drop-out aspect of gameplay can cheat a few of the puzzles. One good example is a gold brick found in the Portal 2 World, with the puzzle designed for Slimer (a wave 5 character), as there is a small hatch leading to the dark room.[[note]] Slimer is the only small Year One character with the illumination ability[[/note]] However, the puzzle can easily be solved with only Wave One characters. Simply enter the dark room with a short character, and place an illuminating character on the pad, and they'll be teleported into the dark room with the player. The rest is fairly simple, and you only need to remove the tall characters from the pad to get them out of the room.

* LowTierLetdown: Marty [=McFly=] is often mocked for his uselessness relative to the rest of the cast, as he [[CripplingOverspecialisation only has one ablility]]: Sonar Smash, an ability most of the other characters have in addition to their other abilities, and which the Batmobile (which comes in the starter back) can also be upgraded to have. He's not even worth using for the [=DeLorean=]'s time traveling abilities, as Doc Brown's Time Train also has that ability.

* WhatTheHellCastingAgency: The impersonators for actors either expensive, dead, or too old generally have a hit-and-miss quality, in terms of how well they can emulate the original vocals. In particular, the voices for ''Film/TheWizardOfOz'' characters sound ''very'' off: Scarecrow has an exaggerated SimpletonVoice, Tin Man sounds very gruff for some reason, and Cowardly Lion has a honky "Brooklyn wise guy" tone.

** Some fans' feelings towards the game is that LEGO is wasting what could have been a big crossover between their own original themes (including fan-favorite "evergreen" themes such as ''Toys/LEGOPirates'', ''Toys/LEGOSpace'', and ''Toys/LEGOCastle'') by instead focusing almost entirely upon licensed themes. The only exceptions included ''WesternAnimation/{{Ninjago}}'', ''WesternAnimation/LegendsOfChima'', ''WesternAnimation/TheLEGOMovie'', and ''VideoGame/LEGOCityUndercover''. %%Do not list The LEGO Batman Movie as an exception to licensed themes, since Batman is not an original LEGO property.

** [[VideoGame/Portal2 Chell]] and [[Series/DoctorWho The Doctor]] both have their own packs and levels. The first in particular, due to already being in her own series of games. ''The Wizard of Oz'' was another unexpected license, especially since the sets were rejected in the LEGO Ideas phase.
*** Speaking of ''Doctor Who'', while appearances from fan favorite monsters like the Daleks, Cybermen, and the Weeping Angels were expected and characters from the 12th Doctor's era such as Clara or Missy were guaranteed, nobody would have expected an appearance from [[Series/{{Torchwood}} Captain Jack Harkness]], as he hadn't shown up in the show's then-incumbent Creator/StevenMoffat era.

** Many of the Disney-owned properties that had previous LEGO video games such as Marvel, ''Star Wars'' and ''Pirates of the Caribbean'' were not involved in ''Dimensions'' due to them appearing in rival game ''VideoGame/DisneyInfinity''. At the end of 2017 Disney purchased 20th Century Fox and most of their properties including ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons''. Furthermore, in 2022, it was announced that 15th Doctor era of ''Series/DoctorWho'' would be an InternationalCoProduction between Disney and the Creator/TheBBC, meaning that two Disney properties are retroactively in this game.

** The notion of Data visiting other dimensions with his homemade inventions and technical expertise in tow now sounds similar to ''Series/Loki2021'', in which [[Creator/KeHuyQuan Data's original actor]] portrays a designer and repairman for the TVA's gadgets.
