  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Hiro may have emotionally abused Mika, and it's later on revealed that he did it to get Mika to distance herself from him so she can be happy without him. However, it's common for people with illnesses to lash out at their loved ones out of anger, therefore it comes as no surprise if Hiro was simply dumping his frustration onto her and justifying it as a way to get her to stop being with him.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Whether Mika is emotionally and mentally prepared to give birth and raise a child likely on her own is subject to debate. The intention of the story was written so that she comes out as stronger after facing multiple hardships, but whether or not she actually is stronger is up in the air.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: The series ends with Hiro succumbing to his cancer and dies, causing Mika to suffer and once again try to kill herself. She's stopped by her friends who show her Hiro's diary notes, which gives Mika the courage to live on and she learns that she is pregnant with Hiro's child. But the questionable happiness comes from the fact that Mika is not properly established as having a stable home life, job and her emotional instability, which has caused her to attempt suicide twice over the course of the series, is also a big issue. It makes one wonder whether she would be able to take care of the child, especially on her own.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Mika experiences heartbreak, rape, unwanted pregnancy, then a miscarriage and even more stuff that seems like it just wants the audience to dry up from reading the series, when all it does after a while is to you think what sad thing won't happen to this girl! So, at times, it's so melodramatic that it becomes boring.
