  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • The moment when the kitten finally gets past her fear of the pit bull, and goes to snuggle up and sleep next to him after he's been badly injured.
    • The ending. Both the kitten and the pit bull get adopted by a nice lady and have a bright future ahead of them. Awwwwwww! Even better, the nice lady initially just wanted to adopt the kitten, and was wary of the pit bull at first... but then the kitten nuzzles up to him and sits at his feet, looking at her as if to say, "We're a package deal — you want me, you take him." Hesitantly, she reaches out her hand to the poor, abused dog, and gives him a much-deserved pet. We then cut ahead to see him with a bandanna around his neck, as he and the kitten run towards their new owner for a picnic. Double awwwwww!
  • Just Here for Godzilla: If general audiences weren't gushing over its cuteness, animation fans were geeking out over the fact that Pixar, the premiere computer animation studio, had released a traditionally animated short.
  • Moe: It's about a cute widdle kitten making friends with a Gentle Giant pit bull. When the short isn't making you cry, it's making you squee.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The pitbull's owner was already clearly not a great guy, leaving the poor thing shackled up outside and never playing with him. But then he forces him into dog fighting, and after he's badly injured, kicks him outside. In the rain.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Reveal that the pit bull is used for dog fighting: after its most recent fight, its owners just push its limp, abused, half-dead body out of the alley door and onto the steps like discarded meat. It's extremely disturbing.
  • Shocking Moments: Many viewers were stunned into silence the first time they saw the pitbull with visible injuries, limping to cower in the doghouse. Not only is it a huge emotional Gut Punch, it's also shocking for many that Pixar actually went there, showing the abuse (or at least its results) instead of just implying the worst of it.
  • Tear Jerker: THE ENTIRE THING. It's like The Fox and the Hound all over again! Though fortunately, Kitbull has a significantly happier ending.
  • The Woobie: The pitbull. He's a sweet, friendly lug who's used by his owners for dog fighting, which has visibly taken its toll on his body. Even sadder if you know that it's partially mistreatment like this that has earned pit bulls their negative reputation.
