  • Padding: The movie's biggest problem, aside from the Special Effects Failure, is this. The scenes with the photo shoot gang are largely gratuitous and do little to advance the plot though they do end up being important to the plot, their scenes do not. The climax with the heroes trapped on a sinking yacht in piranha infested waters also goes on far too long involving a lot of really stupid attempts at saving them. (Including Tom and Luis failing to drop a raft to them... three times!) The MST crew was even able to put a full-blown musical number over one especially interminable swimming scene. Speaking of, the MST cut of the film shortened or cut many of the worse moments, including cutting the heist in half and removing most of the damage caused by the storm at the end, and even with these deep cuts the amount of padding was still insufferable.
  • Special Effects Failure:
    • The piranhas. Aside from a few Stock Footage shots of real live schooling piranhas, any scenes where the piranhas are actually seen involves plastic piranhas with clearly visible wires very obviously superimposed over the action.
    • During the heist at the exploding mine, a crew member can be briefly seen in the background, looming over the model shot like a giant monster.
    • A plane crashing into the trees is a very obvious model, down to the pilot figure which looks only vaguely like the actor it's standing in for.
    • Special mention goes to the tornado. It's just a skinny pillar of smoke (looking, ironically, like the smoke monster from Lost twenty years early) which somehow comes out of a partly cloudy sky and manages to take a chunk out of the dam, while not even stirring the nearby trees.
