  • Critical Dissonance: While theatre critics rave about this show and it became a Long Runner in 2014, it's never been as popular with audiences as its sister shows Mystère, "O", and The Beatles LOVE. See Just Here for Godzilla below.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: All the drama (and dark comedy in the case of the "No Talking or Phones" Warning) of characters falling from the stages, sometimes to their doom, becomes this in light of the June 29, 2013 disaster in which a performer fell to her death during the Battlefield climax. Battlefield was initially cut as a result, and then reinstated with the performers projected upon the wall before its full restoration in late 2014.
  • Heartwarming Moments: When the Court Jester comforts the Twin Brother by teaching him shadow puppets. All the Scenery Porn is admittedly awesome, but this simple scene is arguably the most effective in the show.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Those who primarily watch Cirque shows for acrobatics tend to get bored by this one. While fans admire its creative staging and storytelling, non-fans find them a huge distraction that takes time and focus away from the acrobatics and humanity of the show.
  • Moment of Awesome: The final sequence, culminating with a giant fireworks display set to the reprise of "Pageant"
  • Nightmare Fuel: Much of the soundtrack counts, but "Pursuit" comes to mind.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The film projections are affected in real time by the performers' movements: bubbles floating in the wake of the Twin Sister and Nursemaid in The Deep, stones falling away from the mountainside as the party is hoisted up to the Mountain Tribe's abode, etc.
  • Tear Jerker: After the "Battlefield", the evil Counselor tries to comfort his equally wicked son, who has been blinded by his own explosives and is wailing in pain. The actors put so much emotion into it. It's telling that it's been dialed down since then.
