YMMV / Justice League S 1 E 16 And 17 Fury

• Ass Pull: Several in this episode, especially odd considering the show's track record of otherwise-good writing:
  • The main twist in the episode is that the sea captain that helps Aresia get to land (unknowingly Themyscira) dies on the island due to his heart giving out, and is buried on the island by Hippolyta in an unmarked grave. The Amazons have a strict "no man is allowed on the island, no matter what" rule, and burying the captain there is clearly going against this belief. This itself causes a Continuity Snarl with "Paradise Lost", which saw Wonder Woman banished from Themyscira for bringing Batman, Superman and The Flash to help defeat Hades, showing just how strongly they adhere to this rule. While it could be argued that Hippolyta took sympathy on the sea captain in the spur of the moment, the thing that really strains believability is that Hippolyta didn't tell Aresia about any of this as she was growing up.
  • How the male-only allergen works. While Batman and Green Lantern are human, and thus logically able to fall victim to it, J'onn' is Martian and Superman is Kryptonian, so these two getting affected shouldn't happen, given they very likely have different genetic makeup to Humans, among other biological changes. While the show implies the allergen is partially magical (we do see Aresia crush a gem when making it), it's never made explicit that this the case, and it comes off as a very contrived means of taking Supes and J'onn' out of the fight.
  • Hawkgirl manages to find the antidote for the germ plague "inside the hangar" at the military base. This is never explained further, and the allergen having an antidote literally comes out of thin air plot-wise (let-alone one made by Aresia who is hell bent on getting rid of men entirely!); the reason Aresia is at the hangar is to steal a plane to accelerate her plans by releasing the allergen into the atmosphere to affect the rest of the world, the hangar was not the base of operations for Aresia and her crew.
