• Harsher in Hindsight: Jeremy constantly breaking up with Dana and calling the trio of friends "Macbeth" affectionately becomes this when we learn in the sequel that he always had a crush on Rachel and was waiting for the right opportunity to ask her out. Even if Dana Took a Level in Jerkass while dating Rachel's brother later, she didn't deserve that, and it may explain her newfound hostility towards Rachel.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Rachel is out of line in the last third of the book. She thinks that it's lying when Steph refused to tell her friends that her parents were separating. Rachel follows it up by calling Steph out of touch, and that she's an "immature, insensitive baby". Thing is that, as Allison herself points out with an annoyed expression, it was none of Rachel's business. She understood why Steph didn't want to hang out with her in California because she needed space, after Rachel tactlessly revealed the truth. It's Disproportionate Retribution that Steph mentioned Rachel was going to the dance with Max to the local Alpha Bitch and got in a silly argument with her about wearing designer jeans. Even though Rachel and Steph reconcile, the next book shows they're a bit distant and Steph is understandably hanging out with Alison more.
