YMMV / Jungle King Tar-Chan

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • After Pedro kills White Lotus, we get this gem:
Robinson: "Chief, explain yourself! MAX did not spend a fortune on this trash! Unless you are saying he has another purpose-"
Chief: "Actually, he is still of use."
Umpire: "We can use his corpse as a adapter for your video game console!"
Robinson: "Why would you do this?"
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the chapters features a character known as the Goatman, a goat-like man, decades before a much more malevolent character of the exact same name would become the titular antagonist in "Anansi's Goatman Story" an acclaimed Creepypasta.
  • Love Makes You Crazy:
    • Alexander Corgan during the first half of the Corgan arc. In his mind, the only children he had was Michael, Matt and Lisa, to the point where he even denied the existence of Tar-chan, Rot and Nit. It nearly escalated to Alexander attempting to take Tar-chan's life with a rifle, though fortunately Matt talks him down.
    • Shimer in the Vampire arc to Edward of Cerebus. Edward manages to delude her to the point where she refused to believe her own sister, Leia, when she informs her that Edward is actually evil. Shimer just barely grazes the Moral Event Horizon when she actually bit Pedro and turned him into a vampire out of pure anger and denial.
  • The Woobie:
    • Alexander Corgan. To sum up his life; he had a affair with his queen that got her pregnant and landed him in jail, he breaks out and flees to America with nothing. He accepts a offer from a totally not suspicious man to join a underground fighting ring, making him rich. When he eventually gets tired, he trades his twin sons for his own freedom and founds his own hotel tournament business, birthing three more children. His past action comes to bite him hard as one of the previously mentioned twins; Rot Sootmore, comes to his tournament and plans to take revenge by killing one of his children. Then later, the suspicious man also returns and plots to make his organization king of the fighting world by sending in a masked fighter to kill everyone in the tournament, who is revealed to be Rot's dead brother and other twin, Nit. Alexander's sons Michael and Matt finds out about them and gives a massive to Alexander, creating tensions between him and all six of his children. Nit successfully manages to kill Matt (manga only) and wounds Michael, forcing Alexander to rely on his first son birthed by the queen, Tar-chan. Once Tar-chan defeats Nit, he regains his memories and sanity, only to die within an hour due to not taking his life support medicine created by MAX. You really have to feel sorry for poor Alexander. Even if Tar-chan and Rot reconciles with Alexander, he has lost two sons and Tar-chan refuses to stay, deciding to return to the jungle. The arc epilogue shows Rot becoming vice-president of the business under Michael, a position implied to have been reserved for Matt had he not died. At least Matt survives in the anime.
    • Iron Mask. He only kills on orders of his mother, and is shown to genuinely regret all his actions. Most of the Clone arc's drama comes from Iron Mask being conflicted between pleasing his "mother" and befriending Rosalin, as well as the fact that Tar-chan doesn't realize Iron Mask is suffering until it was too late.
Iron Mask: [Being scratched by Rosalin] "Don't be scared, Rosalin. I am your friend. I'm sorry, I was wrong in the past... I only hit you because mother said so. B-but... Now I... wish to be your friend. Forgive me, Rosalin. Forgive me, forgive me!"
