YMMV / Joe Cocker

  • Covered Up:
    • While people haven't completely forgotten that "With a Little Help From My Friends" was originally a Beatles hit, Cocker's cover is broadly regarded as THE definitive version, particularly among those who watched The Wonder Years. Even Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr consider Cocker's version to be better. Ringo even changed the words in the first line to match how Cocker had changed it.
"what would you think if I sang out of tune?" Becomes "What would you do..."
    • Most people likely don't even know that "You Can Leave Your Hat On" was originally written and performed by Randy Newman, particularly after 9½ Weeks. Funnily enough, Cocker had this happen to him for a brief period after The Full Monty came out, when Tom Jones' cover became more common for a while. Nowadays you're about equally likely to hear either version on the radio, and almost certain to hear people say Jones was covering Cocker! Poor Randy Newman...
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: He was particularly popular in Germany.
