** ''R'' [[NoDubForYou not getting an English Dub]] (not even post-launch ala ''VideoGame/MyHeroOnesJustice 2'') hasn't sat well with some fans of the anime's dub. While the original release not getting one was understandable due to the series still being relatively obscure in the west at the time and that the dub of the anime didn't even exist yet, ''R's'' lack of one is seen as a huge missed opportunity because of not only the series being much more popular by then, but also because all parts of the anime up to that point (1-6) had been dubbed at the time of release. This not only could have meant less casting for the characters from later parts (and Baoh), but also a prime chance for the dub cast to also interact with characters from other parts. Not helping matters is that the English cast has had almost no chances to reprise their roles outside of the show itself, unlike the Japanese cast having done so multiple times in other spin-offs (such as ''Last Survivor'') and promotional material.

** Josuke 8 from ''[=JoJolion=]'' in the R version is this. ''Despite All-Star Battle R'' coming after the [=JoJolion=] manga has ended, and thus has more content to draw from, his moveset and personality are still lifted wholesale from the base game, released when it was still starting. The fact that he is still stuck on his early self got particulary noticeable as the BigBad, who only debuted in the last 20 chapters of the manga, got announced as a character.

** While ''All Star Battle R'' was well received when it was announced, many were disappointed that the remaster would not have rollback netcode. As rollback has become a standard feature for fighting games in recent years, its absence has turned off many potential players who were willing to try the game but want a smooth online experience. While most players assumed that Tooru was the most likely ''[=JoJolion=]'' character to be added due to his status as the arc's BigBad, almost nobody predicted that it was actually ''Wonder of U'' - and ''only'' Wonder of U - that would become playable, with Tooru [[DemotedToExtra only showing up in intro, Wonder of U's Great Heat Attack, and victory animations]]. By extension, no one would have guessed they'd also have two sets of intro animations and victory dialogue for both Toru and his Stand, a trait no other character in the game has.

** Kakyoin was initially viewed as a HighTierScrappy due to {{c|urbStompBattle}}ruising through the All Star Battle League thanks to the AI doing nothing but {{spam|Attack}}ming [[FlechetteStorm Emerald Splash]]. In the released game, however, while Kakyoin ''is'' generally considered one of the stronger characters in the game, he is generally not considered a GameBreaker due to how slow Emerald Splash is in the actual game.
