YMMV / Jakandor

Go To

  • Designated Hero: The Knorr, in the eyes of many. Whilst Jakandor is supposed to be about Grey-and-Gray Morality, the simple fact that the Knorr washed up on the Charonti's homeland and promptly launched a holy war against the natives, scapegoating them as the key to divine favor, eliminates a lot of gamer sympathy for them even without reading the Charonti's sourcebook. It doesn't help that their vengeance-based belief system that encourages a state of endless internecine warfare can come off as ridiculous to those who do read the Knorr sourcebook.
  • Designated Villain: The Charonti, in the eyes of many. Yes, they're arrogant jerks who used to be The Empire. Yes, they practice necromancy. But for the last 5000 years, all they've been doing is focusing on surviving after their empire was wiped out by a plague, and their necromancy actually falls under a case of Dark Is Not Evil due to being The Sacred Darkness, as explained on the main page. Their sourcebook paints them as even more sympathetic, explaining that the Charonti have tried to make diplomatic overtures to the Knorr several times, always being met with violence, and that even now, their preference is to simply avoid the Knorr and leave them alone, for all that there is a faction of Charonti who argues they need to war upon and destroy the Knorr, who seem hellbent on exterminating them to the last first.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Perhaps the biggest issue with the setting that may have contributed to its obscurity is that both sides can feel too unsympathetic to root for. The Knorr are bloodthirsty barbarians who literally venerate war and revenge. The Charonti are arrogant necromancers who want to conquer the world. Both want to annihilate another culture just for being different.
