YMMV / Idol Hakkenden

  • Awesome Music: A lot of music in the game is well composed and it's been advertised for having several songs that go well with lyrics. The best one is the game's main theme, which is the closest you get to a full competent anime theme song on the NES.
  • Cult Classic: While the game's not particularly well-known like other Japanese-only 8-bit titles, it still has a following thanks to the charming plot and music, with some merchandise and a sequel light novel by Jõ Shudõ made decades after its release.
  • Moe: Erika herself. She is a very cute girl who is kind and supportive even if she is not the smartest, and her singing and facial expressions like her smile or goofy face solidify her as this.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion:
    • Kuwashi Yakeni is a man, but his long hair, eyes, and face structure make people who play the game call him a woman when they see him. It doesn't help that no gender pronouns are used to refer to him for a while and are easy to miss.
    • Misao is a girl, but her short hair and masculine outfit with overalls make her easy to mistake for a boy. The character artwork shows her with longer hair, but that is not reflected in the game.
